About
Hello!
My name is Paul Oss and I am a communications professional, content creator and social media strategist located in Edmonton, Alberta.
I worked for the provincial government for about 16 years doing communications, media relations, public relations, issues management, marketing, advertising, social media, research, event management and internal communications.
I have worked on some significant projects including stakeholder consultations, public awareness campaigns, intranet re-designs, traffic safety campaigns, distracted driving legislation, crisis communications, special events–you name it, and I’ve done it!
My formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Alberta and a Public Relations Diploma from MacEwan University. I am a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Digital Marketing Institute.
Throughout my career, I’ve learned that success is built on developing strong relationships with people based on trust and meeting expectations.
Every project I’ve worked on begins with listening carefully to the needs of my clients and proposing creative, effective solutions.
Since leaving my position last April (2023), I’ve taken courses and further training to sharpen my skills and expertise in the areas of digital marketing and social media marketing. I am excited to share everything I’ve learned with you.
Creative pursuits
One of my biggest passions is music. I am a singer, songwriter and guitar player, and I enjoy playing and performing either solo or with a band. I have played professionally in Edmonton and recorded and released a CD of my original songs in the early 90s. I had two of my songs included in a compilation CD released by a local radio station in 1996.
I learned all about guerrilla marketing by managing and promoting my band. I also learned about the importance of developing relationships with the media and these experiences laid the foundation for my future interest in public relations.
I enjoy learning about music production and it really helps when it comes to working on my own recordings or podcasts. I love photography, design, film and using computer technology for creative pursuits.
One of my favourite television shows was the series Mad Men. I think it's fascinating to see how experts approach advertising using creativity and insights into human behaviour.
